Fjord Cowork is a way for remote workers and families to try building a life in the small fjord communities of Geiranger, Eidsdal and Norddal.

Turning the low season into a landing season

The villages around the Geirangerfjord are busy in summer, while many homes stand empty in winter. From February to April, Fjord Cowork turns selected homes into temporary landing places for people considering a more permanent life here.

Participants stay for at least two months and experience the community through its quietest — and sometimes most challenging — season. 

More than a place to stay

Finding a house is only one part of moving somewhere new. Building a social network, understanding how the community works and finding your place in it can be much harder.

That is why Fjord Cowork combines temporary housing and coworking with weekly activities, introductions to local life and practical support. Families can explore local school and kindergarten, participants can join sports and community activities, and we create opportunities for newcomers and locals to meet naturally.

Remote work makes a different life possible

For many people, moving to a small rural community would traditionally mean finding a local job first. Remote work changes that.

If you can bring your work and income with you, you have the freedom to choose where you want to build your life. Keep your job. Change your life.

What does it cost?

You only pay the monthly rent for your home. Coworking, weekly activities and the Fjord Cowork integration programme are included at no extra cost.

This is possible thanks to funding from NORA and Miljødirektoratet. In return, we ask participants to take an active role in local life and contribute to local projects, volunteering or community activities.

The idea is simple: Fjord Cowork should not only help newcomers find their place here, but also strengthen the communities welcoming them.
